1997 Toronto International Film Festival Coverage: Introduction

1997 Toronto International Film Festival (September 4-13, 1997)

This isn't intended as an introduction to the Festival, but as an introduction to how I hope to cover it. Given the sheer volume of films I'll be seeing over the next week, it won't be possible for me to write detailed reviews of every movie. In fact, it won't be possible for me to write detailed reviews of any movie -- at least not immediately. After I have returned from Toronto, I hope to turn out a fair number of reviews, but, while I'm there, I won't have the time. Embarrassing as it is to admit, I need just as much sleep as any other human being to avoid dozing off during screenings.

There are two sections to the Festival coverage:

Until I return from the Festival and have some free time, there won't be many titles in the "Reviews" area. I have already seen 7 films scheduled to be shown, and that's what's there to start with. Other reviews will gradually be added over the next several weeks.

Every day from September 5 through September 10 (I will be missing the final third of the of the Festival), I intend to post a short column detailing my opinion of the films I saw on the previous day. These columns should be both less detailed and less structured than my usual reviews.
